Life is good!

Another charity quilt is quilted, bound, and donated! This was made by Diana Vaclovick of Sweeny, TX, and sent to the amazing Jo Kramer of Jo's Country Junction.    Jo sent it on to me for quilting, and my lovely fellow guildmates in the Kountry Quilters of Wellman bound it. I did a simple loop design, which is good for a beginner like me and makes for a nice soft quilt for a child.  Perfect for this kid-sized, kid-friendly fabric! A fun and colorful quilt! Here it is on display at the auction - it was sold to help support Feed the Kids, and organization that supplies backpacks of food for kids in need each Friday, so they have enough food to get them through the weekend.  It brought enough to fill a backpack every week for the entire year for one child!  I'm sure the recipient will like it as much as my little nephew/model - he thought it was the perfect size for him!

Some changes to the list!  First and foremost, I finished piecing Moda Building Blocks.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the results!  So I am undoubtedly going to spend several hours obsessing about how to quilt it. I was afraid it would be too busy with the prints, but it all comes together beautifully.  Not that I'm biased, of course... I got the MSQC, Tilted Squares, Moda Love and the batik quilt all bound. I finally got pictures of KerBloom! I finished the quilting on the PB&J four patch - loved how it turned out. I got started on a new mini for a swap - another paper piecing project.  I love this one, and it turns out I might get to keep it.  My original partner withdrew, and I think I'm going to try and do a project that she wants more than this current one. With the new long-arm, I find myself making quick quilt tops to practice the free motion quilting.  So I'm ending up with a LOT of finished quilts!  The quilting on some of them is still a bit rougher than I'd like, but hey, that's more quilts that the kids can use to build forts! This one I'm actually pretty pleased with, and it is headed off with my dear Aunt Susie. This is a pattern from a magazine, although I can't recall which one just now.  Very simple, but I had recently purchased a bundle of batiks and it seemed a great fit.  I loaded it onto the machine sideways, and did a different quilting motif in each band.  Feathers, loops, straight lines, I had some fun with them!  Feathers definitely require practice...  Straight lines also require practice... Overall I'm pretty happy with my progress.  I've been using a roll of poly batting; less expensive to practice with, and I actually like the fluff factor.   ...

The amazing Jo at Jo's Country Junction  does a ton of wonderful work doing long-arm for charity quilts.  After my friend, Natalie, and I purchased our long-arm, we both wanted to help do charity work, so I reached out to Jo to see if she needed some assistance.  She sent along five quilt tops, along with backings and bindings, and Natalie and I got to work! This first finish is a wonderful, happy, bright pinwheel quilt, made by Sharon Judkins of Hatfield, Arkansas.   (And special thanks to my 11 year old for photographing - she's working on photography for her 4-H projects, and wanted to help out in her own way!) Natalie did the long-arm work on this one.  Each pinwheel got it's own spiral, and there are spirals in all the sashing and borders.  Natalie made sure to get a pinwheel in cornerstone, as well. It was bound in a lovely blue, with the ladies in our local quilt guild stepping up to do the actual binding work.  This one will ...

Summer is flying along, as usual.  It seems there is never enough time to get everything done!  The kids' bedtimes get pushed later and later with the long days, despite my best efforts, and so my after bedtime quilting hour gets shorter and shorter. I've signed up for two more round robins (what was I thinking?!?) which I love, but do suck up the hours.  It does let me spend some time with hubby in front of the TV, though, so trade-offs! One of my UFO's is off to find a new home.  Someone on IG was having to sell their favorite fabrics, and I happened to have a UFO out of those very same fabrics.  This one has been on the UFO list for a while.  I have 14 of these blocks finished and a pile of scraps, so hopefully getting this will brighten her day a bit!  And I'm delighted to get rid of a UFO that holds not much appeal and let fabrics go to where they will be loved.  I finished my mini quilts, and sent them off.  I wasn't thri...
