Weekly WIP

As I said in my last post, there hasn't been a whole lot of sewing going on.  Not really intentionally, but life has just been a bit busy.  I need to get better at spending 10 minutes sewing instead of spending 10 minutes trolling Facebook and Instagram...

Our guild's spring retreat is coming up.  It's two nights, but I'm only doing Friday afternoon through Saturday.  I used a ton of vacation for the trip, so I don't have too much to spare.  But I'm still looking forward to it!  Mom is joining me, which makes me happy beyond words.

So, the ultimate question of what to bring!

The first priority is to finish my most recent Bakeshop project, even though that's not on my WIP list.  It should be relatively straightforward, so I'm hoping to have time for other projects as well.  I'm limiting myself to my WIP list - nothing new!!

So -

1. Bakeshop project - it's secret sewing, so this is all you get to see! 

1a. Prism Stars - I need this for a guild demo so adding it in as another first priority.  But first I need to physically locate it.  How do you lose an entire project??



2. Crystal Gems - either assemble the 49 blocks I have, or make enough to make it king-sized.  49 blocks would make it 84 inches square.  I'd need 32 more blocks, and I've pretty much used up the majority of my batik scraps, so I'd have to cut into fat quarters.  Leaning towards assembling the ones I have.  I might add one more row and make it queen sized? 

3. Assemble Rows of Cats - should be quick and easy!

4.  Work on Flight Effects mini - I'm doubting I'll have time to get to this, but we'll see!

Pinwheel Charity Quilt - FINISHED!

The amazing Jo at Jo's Country Junction  does a ton of wonderful work doing long-arm for charity quilts.  After my friend, Natalie, and I purchased our long-arm, we both wanted to help do charity work, so I reached out to Jo to see if she needed some assistance.  She sent along five quilt tops, along with backings and bindings, and Natalie and I got to work! This first finish is a wonderful, happy, bright pinwheel quilt, made by Sharon Judkins of Hatfield, Arkansas.   (And special thanks to my 11 year old for photographing - she's working on photography for her 4-H projects, and wanted to help out in her own way!) Natalie did the long-arm work on this one.  Each pinwheel got it's own spiral, and there are spirals in all the sashing and borders.  Natalie made sure to get a pinwheel in cornerstone, as well. It was bound in a lovely blue, with the ladies in our local quilt guild stepping up to do the actual binding work.  This one will be donated to Feed the

Another year of Quarantine

The vaccine is rolling, out, but OH SO SLOWLY.  And I'm about dead last on our priority list (as it probably should be - no complaints!) so I just need to keep on going.  I've felt the need for some slow stitching recently, which has done good things for the progress on a lot of old cross stitch UFO's.  I finished the Band Sampler that I did as a round robin a while ago.  It's beautiful, but with Mary Ellen gone I'll have to spend a LOT more than I used to to get it framed!   I've also completed "A Little Quakeresque" sampler - such a lovely project!  And my "12 Days of Christmas" piece is done as well, although I did have to order more floss.  I think it might end up as a pillow cover?  I can't think of a place to hang in during the holidays.    My piecing list is actually pretty under control for a change.  I decided to join in on a quilt along for "All the Good" and I absolutely LOVE how it's turned out.  It was part of a

Kate Spain Charm Swap Finish!

Quite a while ago, I participated in a Kate Spain Charm Swap over at Quilts from my Crayon Box .  I just loved the assortment I got back!  So colorful and bright, and so cheery to just have in a stack and pet.  But I decided to actually use them all.  I wanted a pattern that would really show off the variety of fabrics, and this one from Moda Bake Shop seemed to be a great fit.  I enlarged it to use up all the charms.  It's almost a complete charm quilt - I had to add in just a few duplicates to make enough squares.  I absolutely love the final result! The fabrics have such great variety I didn't really have to consciously do any fabric placement - they all looked good together! I used one of my favorites from terrain for the cornerstones and binding.  The quilter did a great job - outlined the stars and added a small flower to the center of each, with a moderately tight stipple throughout the rest.  I'm completely torn on what to do
