Back at the Bakeshop again this week!






This was a fun project to put together, and although I had extreme trepidations about the color combination, I love how it turned out.  I think there are lots of fun options for this design - I would love to see it with the Zen Chic modern backgrounds, or in all solids.  One of my favorite things about quilting is how one design can look so totally different, depending on fabric choices and placements.

I've been making progress on other things as well, although I've obviously stunk about getting any progress posted here.  I finished a top for my stepson, and it's off at the quilters. It uses the aforementioned Zen Chic modern backgrounds, both ink and paper.  It's Chevron News.  I usually try to stay away from using the exact fabrics called for in a pattern, but I just loved how this one looked, so I went with it.  I did add borders to take it up to queen size; I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

I finished this while on a quilting retreat.  What fun that was - to stay up until 2 in the morning doing uninterrupted sewing, and then get up and spend the morning sewing some more!  And I had to laugh, because some of those little old ladies put me to shame - I was one of the early ones to bed.

In addition to getting this top completed, I got several more tops cut out.  I delved into my precious Frond Fabrics stash.  First up was this one:

Again, went with the recommended fabrics for the pattern, since I absolutely LOVE Stephanie Brandenburg designs.  Can't wait to get started sewing on this one!



Also up was Landscape:


I'm doing the version on the left.  It's the perfect size for a wall hanging in my living room.  I'm planning on making one for each season; I've already finished a Christmas one.

I haven't started sewing either of them yet.  In the meantime, I finished a table runner for an Instagram swap.  My first; it appears my partner hasn't completed mine, so I'm stuck in the waiting game, both on receiving mine and sending mine off.





And I've been practicing, and practicing, my free motion quilting.  I have a feeling I'm going to need to make up a number of quick and easy quilt tops to sacrifice to the cause.  I know it just takes practice, and I think I'm getting better, but I'm going to end up with a lot of utility quilts in the meantime.




I'm turning this one into a bit of an FMQ sampler.  I am about 95% finished with the quilting.  Lots of mistakes, lots of things I wish I could fix, but it's all about the practice!  I used the blue thread in the white areas so I could really see what I'm doing, so a mixed blessing, because now I can really see all the errors.  :)

Pinwheel Charity Quilt - FINISHED!

The amazing Jo at Jo's Country Junction  does a ton of wonderful work doing long-arm for charity quilts.  After my friend, Natalie, and I purchased our long-arm, we both wanted to help do charity work, so I reached out to Jo to see if she needed some assistance.  She sent along five quilt tops, along with backings and bindings, and Natalie and I got to work! This first finish is a wonderful, happy, bright pinwheel quilt, made by Sharon Judkins of Hatfield, Arkansas.   (And special thanks to my 11 year old for photographing - she's working on photography for her 4-H projects, and wanted to help out in her own way!) Natalie did the long-arm work on this one.  Each pinwheel got it's own spiral, and there are spirals in all the sashing and borders.  Natalie made sure to get a pinwheel in cornerstone, as well. It was bound in a lovely blue, with the ladies in our local quilt guild stepping up to do the actual binding work.  This one will be donated to Feed the

Another year of Quarantine

The vaccine is rolling, out, but OH SO SLOWLY.  And I'm about dead last on our priority list (as it probably should be - no complaints!) so I just need to keep on going.  I've felt the need for some slow stitching recently, which has done good things for the progress on a lot of old cross stitch UFO's.  I finished the Band Sampler that I did as a round robin a while ago.  It's beautiful, but with Mary Ellen gone I'll have to spend a LOT more than I used to to get it framed!   I've also completed "A Little Quakeresque" sampler - such a lovely project!  And my "12 Days of Christmas" piece is done as well, although I did have to order more floss.  I think it might end up as a pillow cover?  I can't think of a place to hang in during the holidays.    My piecing list is actually pretty under control for a change.  I decided to join in on a quilt along for "All the Good" and I absolutely LOVE how it's turned out.  It was part of a

Kate Spain Charm Swap Finish!

Quite a while ago, I participated in a Kate Spain Charm Swap over at Quilts from my Crayon Box .  I just loved the assortment I got back!  So colorful and bright, and so cheery to just have in a stack and pet.  But I decided to actually use them all.  I wanted a pattern that would really show off the variety of fabrics, and this one from Moda Bake Shop seemed to be a great fit.  I enlarged it to use up all the charms.  It's almost a complete charm quilt - I had to add in just a few duplicates to make enough squares.  I absolutely love the final result! The fabrics have such great variety I didn't really have to consciously do any fabric placement - they all looked good together! I used one of my favorites from terrain for the cornerstones and binding.  The quilter did a great job - outlined the stars and added a small flower to the center of each, with a moderately tight stipple throughout the rest.  I'm completely torn on what to do
